I./SG 77 base in October 1944
I would appreciate comments of board members to following „mystery“:
According to http://www.ww2.dk/air/attack/sg77.htm the Geschwaderstab and I./SG 77 were based in Cracow between August and December of 1944. The I./SG 77 is known to be assigned against Allied forces within Slovak territory during Slovak national uprising inside of German territory. On 18.10.1944 I./SG 77 Uffz. Heinrich Wieseotte was shot down and captured after combat with Czechoslovak La-5s in this area. My question is – from what airbase did I./SG 77 missions against Slovak territory :?: It is hard to believe that it was done from Cracow with Tatra mountains in the flight path ![]() Thanks in advance for any comments |

I./SG 77 was based at Kraków from the end of August 1944 until 15-16 January 1945, apart from a very brief tactical transfer to Zichenau (Ciechanów) in early November.
I hope that this helps. |
