Exclamation T/Sgt Tindill T E 388BG/363BS

Hello ,

On december 24 1944 T/Sgt Tindill T E from the 388BG/363BS arrived at A-89 le Culot in Belgium after he bailed out from his bomber , other crewmembers bailed out over " Bierswald " ? Germany and were safe.
Does someone has some more information on this event ?

Regards

Re: T/Sgt Tindill T E 388BG/363BS

From The 388th At War by Edward J. Huntzinger, p. 193:

"Lt. Thompson in a/c 44-8411, "Borrowed Time" was hit by flak before the Target and left the formation. The crew bailed out near Leige and the plane blew up."

That's all I have. No MACR as far as I know.

Re: T/Sgt Tindill T E 388BG/363BS

Something is not quite correct here Alain

a) There was no 363BS in the 388BG (you probably want to refer to 563BS?)
b) As per 'Losses of the 8th and 9th AF' there was no T/Sgt Tindill onboard 44-8411.
Also all nine crewmembers returned to their unit from that aircraft, which is unlikely if they had bailed out over Germany.

A quick check on all crew members mentioned on the 24th, I could not find any Tindill anywhere.
I might have missed it though....

Cheers
Stig

Re: T/Sgt Tindill T E 388BG/363BS

Leige must be Liège for sure in liberated Belgian territory. But close to the front line due to the German push into the Ardennes.
Have trouble to trace a T.E. Tindill (or slightly more common Tindall?) as well.

Perhaps send a message to https://www.388thbga.org/contact to hear if a Sgt Tindill was anywhere on the 388th BG rosters.

Regards,
Leendert

Oddly only one Tindill came up in the enlistment section on NARA.

This link shows the crew of 44-8411:
https://b17flyingfortress.de/en/b17/...borrowed-time/

Of interest may be T/Sgt Thomas Edward Linzee. (Has his last name been garbled into Tindill at some point??)

Here is his obit:

https://www.chapmanfuneral.com/obitu...?obId=20700798

Note the obit lists his plane as "My Honey".

I think the story has become very confused over the years.

There is a website, 388bg.com has full missions and crew lists. This was mission 237, to Darmstadt. Only one plane was lost on the mission.
