Combat 18 May 1941

At 0653 hrs on this day, two Bf 109s on a weather recce over SE England had an inconclusive combat over Dungeness with up to 6 RAF fighters, 91 Sqn claimed to have damage one and shot down the other but this was not the case. Any ideas of the German unit?

The action is referred to in the day's sitrep but without any clue as to the unit, unfortunately.

Thanks Nick I have this too. Interesting that the Luftwaffe felt the need to report this & RAF over claimed. Lee-Knight was the pilot that claimed the destroyed & it would appear his combat report is missing from the NA

Re: Combat 18 May 1941

Hi Chris

I have checked John Foreman (three books) and he states 91 Sq claimed two destroyed on this date.

What makes you so certain it was one destroyed and one damaged?
The ORB?

Cheers
Stig
