Brewster Buffalo ex RNEIAF used by USAAF in Australia
Hi All
Does anyone possibly have details with regard to the fate of the three aircraft with USAAF tail numbers 304, 313 and 314? One of them was most likely the aircraft which crashed near Mt Stanley 1 July 1942. Did all (301 - 314) serve with the 4th Aerial Depot Group? Six ex RNEIAF Buffalos did not receive any US tail number. Was it because they went to RAAF directly or was there some other reason. Is it known why the Depot operated these aircraft? To have pilot staff keeping up their pilot skills while waiting to test fly the "real" aircraft soon to be assembled? Finally, were there any other aircraft in the area which were used by the USAAF in the Far East due to similar reasons? Cheers Stig |

Hi All
Clint has kindly sent over a study made by P C Boer (one that I must have missed for some reason), which answers most (if not all) of my questions above. Cheers Stig |
