Additions to Nachtjagd losses 25-26 February 1944
Dear all,
We're currently working on the 1st volume in the Nachtjagd Combat Archive series for 1944, which will cover Jan-Feb-early March 1944. Work includes preparing the maps for this volume, the last one of which will detail 25-26 February 1944. On this night, the I. Jagdkorps reported 10 Nachtjagd aircraft losses, but I only have three NVM for this night, which detail the following three aircraft: NJG Grp/St. Type WNr Location NJG1 11. Bf110 G-4 720151 Maldeghem NJG2 1. Ju88 C-6 720114 3 km W. of Simmershausen NJG3 5. Ju88 C-6 750681 München-Riem airfield Who can supplement the Nachtjagd losses on 25-26 February 1944 for me? No need for full crew details, only details on unit, aircraft type, Wnr and location of loss will suffice. Cheers and thanks for any additions! Theo |

Re: Additions to Nachtjagd losses 25-26 February 1944
Thanks for these useful additional details Martin.
I believe though that I/NJG102 Bf110 G-4 47052 Kitzingen airfield was a non-operational loss, and I'm not sure if this loss occurred on either 24-25 or 25-26.2.44, same for 720069. And yes 11/NJG1 Bf110 G-4 740136 G9+KY 15km NW of Dunkirk was Heinz Vinke's aircraft, this loss occurring during an air sea rescue operation in the early daylight hours on the 26th February 44. Re: Additions to Nachtjagd losses 25-26 February 1944
Even worse is that there is no WNr 47052
The Me 110 G models used either four or six digit numbers and this one does not even come close to any of them, no matter how I twist and turn the digits If one considers a possible "double fault" from the unknown clerk here, I suppose 740052 could be a candidate..... Any better idea Theo? Cheers Stig PS: Of course there was an F model with WNr 4752 but would such an old nightfighter be valid in 1944?? Last edited by Stig Jarlevik; 14th October 2019 at 16:04. Re: Additions to Nachtjagd losses 25-26 February 1944
740052 is a good candidate, because it I/NJG 102 had this in its inventory and it made a belly landing on 12 April, 1944. At the beginning of February 1944 JG 102 had still 5 Bf 110 F-4.
However, 4752 is not possible, because it was destroyed already on 17 Jan 1943 (2./NJG 1 at 10 km südlich Houten, 7 km südöstlich Utrecht). Please note also the following: - WNr. 720151 was changed in the original NVM at WASt with a pen to 740151, - 750691 was changed in the original NVM at WASt with a pen to 750684. To me at least the first change could be justified, because I have not found any Bf 110 with WNr. 720084 - 720173. Matti |

Re: Additions to Nachtjagd losses 25-26 February 1944
Theo, will you also include the activites of JG 302 over Helsinki 16-17 and 26-27 February 1944?

Hello Carl,
The activites of JG302 over Helsinki in February 1944 will be dealt with in detail in another volume in the NCA series covering the Nachtjagd on the Eastern Front in WWII. Cheers, Theo |

Re: Additions to Nachtjagd losses 25-26 February 1944
Dear all,
.. one additional question re. the Nachtjagd losses on 25-26.2.1944: NJG2 1. Ju88 C-6 720114 3 km W. of Simmershausen, I have found three places called Simmershausen, which is the one where the 1./NJG2 Ju88 crashed? Cheers, Theo |
