JFV for 24 December 1944

I have Prien’s JFV 13/V and want to find out if JFV 13/IV and VI have any claims for Enschede, Netherlands or in 05 OST/GO- 8/1 or 63681 for the 24 December 1944.

Perhaps you can explain a little why you are looking for a claim near Enschede? More or less my backyard.....

John, trying to eliminate “suspects” for the 193 Squadron Typhoon that was shot down there, before moving on to inside Germany. There is no mission times shown on your site.

Re: JFV for 24 December 1944

Did a quick flip through the two books.

Nothing claimed for 24.12.44 fits a Typhoon lost near Enschede, though there are a few claims listed that do not give any location. All these are for other types, not Typhoons (or Tempests)

There is one interesting entry - the loss of

Uffz H Rechenbach (wounded) in combat with an English fighter N of Enschede
Fw190 A-9 490026 rt 4 of 4/JG1 forcelanded

Regards

Martin

Re: JFV for 24 December 1944

I think I./JG 1 was not involved in the battle with No. 193 and No. 197 Sqn. I believe Rechenbach's a/c was damaged earlier and he tried to return to Twenthe. I think IV./JG 3 was involved in that battle with these Typhoons (after returning from the Ardennes), but cannot proof it.

Re: JFV for 24 December 1944

Hello John,

I have found no casualty numbers for the Tempests EJ803, JN803, EJ522 and EJ552. Only the crash location of the Tempest EJ803 is known: 1130 hrs near Spelle county Lingen/Ems. Maybe some of the Typhoons in the Luftgaukommando report were actually Tempests.
To J 2742: Jägergradnetz HOO 9/3 is a typo, correct is HO 9/3.

Regards
Leo
