Re: Luftwaffe LOSSES List 1939-45?

Larry's question remains a good one. Where would one find an accounting of Luftwaffe losses from 1939 through 1945? I have in mind two dates in particular (10 July, 1943 and 2 August, 1943 both in the Mediterranean Theatre) but would be very interested in other dates and places.

Paul

Re: Luftwaffe LOSSES List 1939-45?

The Luftwaffe Quartermaster General's Returns list all aircraft and personnel losses in varying degrees of detail for 1939-31 Dec 43 and then sporadically for 1945. These returns can be found at such places as the IWM or, like myself, I have a microfiche set. The reason there is nothing for 1944 is because they are missing (very much a holy grail). Personnel casualties were subject to a Namentliche Verlustemeldung, which are held by WASt in Berlin. Many researchers have various copies but I am afraid getting such out of WASt are nowadays not possible. In a nutshell, this is a starting point for finding such losses
