Any one have information on Gunther Bloemertz JG26 who wrote book "Heaven Next stop". The book 'Heaven Next Stop' was written as a historical novel although it appears to the casual reader as a first-person autobiography. Although an entertaining book to read, it 'is thus of no value as a factual history. Caldwell says that Bloemertz' book is meant as a personal tribute to the fallen pilots of the Geschwader.
I believe information can be found maybe in Caldwell's 2-volume set of 'JG26 War Diaries'. But not certain?
Does any one know the true facts about Gunthers flying career?
Did he actually get shot down and seriously injured in 1943 and returned only as a training pilot?
Any information would be helpful?

Thanks for that information - Members. In his book 'Heaven Next Stop' I am also intrigued by though is one of the photographs. The narrative tells of the shooting down of a British holder of the VC. Although not directly linked to the text, the book gives the impression that it is the VC holder mentioned.

Any clues to who he (British Pilot VC holder on the left) really is or indeed, who is the German officer (bending down) next to him?.
