RAF No. 276 Squadron - 3 Nov 1944 - Maytests?

In the November 1944 Summary of Events of RAF No. 276 Squadron it says on 3.11.44: Walrus aircraft of both flights carried out "Maytests".

The Nov 1944 Record of Events has many entries with "Maytest" as well.

What is a "Maytest"?

Above Flights referred to are "B" Flight at B.48 Amiens/Glisy and "C" Flight at B.63 Bruges/St.Croix.

NA Ref AIR 27/1598/21.

Thanks for info.

Regards,

Leendert

Perhaps something to do with ‘Mayday’ distress calls?

I think Ian is right, testing the aircrew's link to ASR Command by a specified channel on their radio (VHF) after calling "Mayday"; this put them through to an ASR controller who could direct the nearest rescue launch to them, the boats being in contact via the same channel ( this began in 1944).
