Arado and Reims

Is there any connection between Reims and Arado?

I have in January - March 1942 "Kontrollflüge" and "1/2 h - Flüge" of Fw 190 with Arado-W.Nr.'s 52xx but I couldn't find any connection between Arado and Reims in Bookie's Fw190-page or other internet sources (the Hermann-book I haven't).

Many thanks in advance

Re: Arado and Reims

There was an AGO FRW in Reims, doing repairs on Fw 190.

Re: Arado and Reims

I think you are looking at the Flugbuch Karl Ebert.

During the time frame you are referring the winter was very cold and has had a lot of snow at Warnemünde. Therefore, after a first test flight at Warnemünde, the new aircraft were ferried to a warmer region where the final test were carried out in cooperation with Luftpark Reims. All those aircraft were delivered afterwards to units in France or Belgium.

Re: Arado and Reims

Please Sirs,

Could you enhance my small knowledge about the LW?

What a AGO FRW means? What were those Test Centers purposes? Did they carried out great overhawls or just assembled new factory built machines (transported via Trains) before ferrying them to the front line units?
Were those pilots (test pilots of the AGO FRW or other similar FRW) supposed to fly combat missions if their test center or airfield was attacked? Did they have fighter training for that or were they civilians from the factories, like Focke Wulf test pilots, Messerschmitt test pilots?

My knowledge about that aspect or information about the LW is nil (0).

Viele Danke, Thanks, Merci, Obrigado.

Re: Arado and Reims

Just for instance,

I have seen on a RAF Logbook a similar test after a 120 hours overhaul of one Airspeed Oxford. The pilot and mechanic took off to see if everything was in order (engine, controls, systems, undercarriage, etc.).

Guess you are talking about a similar LW test of 00:30hs (half one hour) to test one Fw 190 A-2 or A-3 controls systems (Flaps, ailerons, etc.).

Re: Arado and Reims

FRW means Flugzeug Reparatur Werk.
At Reims there was a Junkers factory repairing Ju 88 aircraft but I have no data that the factory also repaired any Fw 190 aicraft.

Re: Arado and Reims

Thanks all for the kind answers ... and Merlin you are right, it' the FB Ebert. Now it's all clear. Thanks again ...

...but it's an FRW not an "Front-Reparaturwerk"? Erla VII for example was an FRB/GL - "Front - Reparaturbetrieb/ Generalluftzeugmeister"...

Best regards
Rasmussen
