Graham,

Yes, as far as I remember you are right. Later models were fitted with 4 canons and could carry bombs, but the difference was that these models had an additional fuel tank behind the cockpit so that the CG was moved more rearwards again. But this was only possible after the landing gear issues were fixed so that the take off weight could be increased.

There are Mtt reports that describe a violent upwards movement after the bombs were released.

Thanks Roger - the change in weight would give an upwards movement, as on all bombers, but with the Me262 the change of weight being so far ahead of the cg would result in the nose pitching up, probably severely, and it is this effect I was wondering about. The Pilot's Notes may refer to some very rapid retrimming after bomb release.
