Re: Werknummern and sub-types

Me 410 W.Nr. 420414 was built at Augsburg as an A-1 between Nov43 and Jan 44 (110,210,410 book by Petrick?). I would appreciate if you have any particulars of date, or location for this aircraft as it is not yet in my database.

Best regards,

Artie Bob

ps. Defining the subtype is only completely valid for the Neubau situation as following a rebuild, the subtype can in some cases change. AB

Re: Werknummern and sub-types

The following are from Mankau/Petrick's "Bf 110, Me 210, Me 410":

Bf 110 W.Nr. 4225 - Bf 110 D-3
Bf 110 W.Nr. 2191 - Bf 110 C-4
Bf 110 W.Nr. 1548 - Not shown

Me 410 W.Nr. 420 414 - Me 410 A-1. Just out of curiosity, what is your interest in the Me 410?

All the best,
George

Re: Werknummern and sub-types

Dear Artie, George and Seaplanes,

Thanks a lot for the added details.

I've no special interest in the Me.410 as aircraft type, however the 420414 crashed in my reserach area:

On 19th April 1944 at 05.45 hrs local time the 420414 9K+GP of 6./KG51 made a crashlanding at Bergen airfield (North-Holland). It returned from England on a single engine and during the landing, the undercarriage collapsed. Bordfunker Uffz Heinz Irmer was seriously wounded. The pilot may have been Lt Wolfgang Manning.
(with thanks to Brian Bines who could provide the NVM recently)

Kind regards,
Hans Nauta

Re: Werknummern and sub-types

Thanks Hans for your info on that Me 410. At this point in time it was probably armed with the 20mm cannon gun pack in the bomb bay instead of bombs, and so was probably an Me 410 A-1/U2.

To add substance to this idea, Me 410 intruders were out and over Britain on that morning and shot down 3 Lancasters returning from raids on Rouen and Cologne. 2 were shot down over Witchford, near Ely, 115 Sqdn; and the 3rd, from 625 Sqdn, suddenly caught fire and crashed while landing, assumed to be due to intruder action.
