First Name of Lt.Koch ? JG5

Hello

In the Tony Wood's list,there is a Lt.Koch (13./JG5) with victories in Sept.and October 1944 (two?).
Someone has an idea of his first name?

Thanks in advance

best regards
michel

Re: First Name of Lt.Koch ? JG5

That would be Lt. Karl-Heinz Koch.

From "Eismeerjäger" by Eric Mombeek:

27.9.44 11:45 Jak9. 37ost/qa72o (1)
9.10.44 15:00 IL-2. Petsamo (2)
23.10.44 9:50 Boston. Berlevaag (3)
? (4)
9.2.45 16:12 Mustang. Fördefjord (5)

Re: First Name of Lt.Koch ? JG5

Thank's Ian
This seems very plausible.
However,if the information in "Luftwaffe officer career summaries" is correct, the Yak-9 of the 27/9/44 would not be his first but rather his third, because according Prien(JVDL teil 6/II),there is a Uffz.Karl-Heinz Koch(14/JG77) with a victory the 10/11/41 and another with 4/JG3(P-47).

Re: First Name of Lt.Koch ? JG5

Interesting ....according to "Luftwaffe officer career summaries" he had five victories.....that could explain why one is missing in Mombeek's....however not two!

Unless of course one of those was a probable victory......

First Name of Lt. Koch of JG 5

Hi guys

Interesting thread about this particular pilot. I honestly have the impression that there is some confusion regarding this man as it seems to me that there may have been at least two and perhaps three individuals whose details have been mixed up. It appears there was an Unteroffizer Karl-Heinz Koch who was serving with 14./JG 77 in November 1941 and then another Unteroffizer Karl-Heinz Koch who was serving with 4./JG 3 in September 1943. We then have Leutnant Karl-Heinz Koch who was serving with JG 5 in the latter part of the war and eventually became Staffelkapitän of 12./JG 5. In the photograph that appears on page 318 of Focke Wulf Jagdflugzeug by Rodeike it appears that the second, third and fourth victory bars are topped by a red star and the first and fifth victory bars by either a white star or roundel. Could the man that served with JG 3 be the same person who served with JG 5?

Horrido!

Leo

Re: First Name of Lt.Koch ? JG5

Indeed Leo,this seems confusing!
But following your information,it was clear that the Karl-Heinz Koch of the JG3 and that of JG5 is the same.

22/09/43=P-47 (bar with roundel)
27/09/44=Yak-9(bar with red star)
09/10/44=Il-2 (bar with red star)
23/10/44=boston(bar with red star)
09/02/45=mustang(bar with roundel)

In the list of losses of II/JG3 on 20/10/43
Lt Karl-Heinz Koch:belly landing (Venlo) Bf.109 G-6 "26067" white 8+--

The "guy" of the 14/JG77, perhaps a error of Prien?? or another Koch ( a very commun name in germany)

Re: First Name of Lt.Koch ? JG5

Sorry,I rushed a bit,it can also be a bar with a white star or roundel for the 22/09/44 and the 09/02/45

Re: First Name of Lt.Koch ? JG5

I have his book(version 1976),but there is not much on Karl-Heinz Koch, not to say nothing.
Girbing seems to even ignore that he claims some victories,on the other hand,he cites others as Horst Oberlander(9),Franz Bozizek(5),Bruno Buzzi(9),Heinz Elbracht(9),Hohn(6),Bela Preisler(6),Paul Schalk(20)....and for now I don't find any confirmations.even Wolfgang Kosse(20!!),the "guy" of the Sturmstaffel (1944),but seems to be "only" 7 (unknown dates:1942??)

best regards
