Gerhard Raht Ju88 4R+AB issue

Both the Officer Career Summaries and the Kracker database say this a/c was a G-6, with the Career Summaries stating it was lost on 24 June 1944. I have not found a Werknummer for this a/c. The code is clearly one for Stab I./NJG2.
BUT the Flugzeugbestand und Bewegungsmelden for I./NJG2 shows no G-6's in the Gruppe until September 1944. Prior to that there were C-6, R-2 and G-1, all of which were present in June.
Can anyone confirm the aircraft type lost by Raht on 24/6/44?
Thanks
Peter

Re: Gerhard Raht Ju88 4R+AB issue

That is what is happening when authors are quoting each other. I./NJG 2 did not have any JU 88G-6 in June 1944, they got their first one i September 1944. And Raht did not bring any from 4./NJG 3 either. They got their first one after Raht left the unit. I could originally be a typing error.

Re: Gerhard Raht Ju88 4R+AB issue

Ju 88 G-1 710510 was reported 4R+AB on 28.06.44 at Chateaudun.
(TNA HW 5 CX/MSS/T.234/14) No mention of Rath.

On date 24.06.44 many were damaged or destroyed there in enemy attack.
Raht is not listed in any of these.

Salonen info has Ju 88 R-2 4R+RB destroyed on ground 10.06.44
and his name. No WNr. given.

Re: Gerhard Raht Ju88 4R+AB issue

Thanks guys.
So from what you say according to Matti Salonen there is a probability Ju88R-2 4R+RB was associated with Raht, and then maybe/perhaps he could also be associated with Ju88G-1 710510 4R+AB, with the G-1 mistakenly recorded as a G-6 at some point in time?

No, that is just spculating. You need actuaral reference to 710510 with Raht or any G-1 /G-6 mistake. But I can not say more about Ju 88 R-2 one. I think this might be clear case of guessing into circumstances.

Re: Gerhard Raht Ju88 4R+AB issue

OK Ed, yes that was speculating. Just thought I'd throw it in and see what the general opinion was.
Nick, that's interesting. The Air Units info shows Raht was Kdr I./NJG2 from 13/5/44 to 8/5/45 based at Eindhoven and Chateaudun in May/June 1944. But then it also shows he was Kdr II./NJG4 from 20/5/44 to 22/6/44 based at Dijon and Coulommiers in that period.
Is it possible he commanded both units for a month? How does that work?

Re: Gerhard Raht Ju88 4R+AB issue

Oberleutnant Gerhard Rath was Staffelkapitän ./NJG 2 from the 1st of April to 11th of May, 1944 and then he took over I./NJG 2 as a Gruppenkommandeur from the 20th of May, 1944 until the end of the war.
Hans Autenrieth was leading II./NJG 4 undtil the 20th of May, 1944 and then Hubertr Rauh took over on the 25th of May.

Peter, I think the one major fault in the source I quoted is as simple as this:
The appendix is simply titled "DISPOSITION OF NACHTJAGD JUNE 1944"
...Now let's not miss the fact that it says JUNE 1944 and not any specific date. Anything could happen in a month that consists of an entire 30 days, so your info AND my source could both be correct in that sense, if you catch my drift...

Still, once again I hope I have helped you at least close off a source (Boiten's Nachtjagd War Diaries) that you might not get to check outside of this forum

Re: Gerhard Raht Ju88 4R+AB issue

Looks like an error in Holm's database, then. It says Hubert "Rauch" didn't take over until 22 June. But then he also mis-spelled Raht as Rath. Raht, Rath, Rauh, Rauch .... maybe the result of tired eyes, perhaps.
I'll take Delmenhorst's advice that Rauh took over on 25 May as correct.
Thanks for all your input, guys
Peter
