Ofw. Gerhard Beutin, JG 54
Ofw. Gerhard Beutin, aces with 60 victories, KIFA 25.6.1943 at 2./JGr West as a flying teacher in Biarritz. Bf 109E-7, WNr. 5006.
Do you have any info if it was a single-seater or modified for two, that is, a pupil and an instructor, please? At that time she had 2./JGr. West base in Biarritz. Is the cause of his fall known? I think his pupil didn't make a flight or start or landing. He is buried in the cemetery Berneuil (France) German War Cemetery as Fw. Was he posthumously promoted to Ofw.? February 1, 1943 lost JG 54 three machines. Oblt. Günther Götze and Uffz. Karl Kulke, from 3./JG 54 - MIA - Flak. And an unknown pilot (the pilot returned) from 4./JG 54 after an emergency landing on the abdomen after a technical failure. Are these losses of JG 54 of this day final? February 1, 1943, was Gerhard Beutin, long mistakenly referred to as KIFA. Didn't he hurt that day? The fact is that another victory recorded February 15, 1943 and at that time was promoted to Fw. and shortly thereafter transferred from 3./JG 54 to 2./JG 54. Around the end of February 1943. March 25, 1943 was awarded the Deutsches Kreuz in Gold, after 52 victories, as Uffz. at 3./JG 54, but at that time was already Fw. and member 2./JG 54. Only one photo with Beutin is known (In group photo of pilots 3./JG 54), but no close up photos. Is there a portrait photo with Beutin? Thank you and have a nice day. Re: Ofw. Gerhard Beutin, JG 54
Fact found:
Messerschmitt never remade the E-7 to a two-digit version. So Beutin died in the standard single-seat version of E-7. The cause of the crash was a technical fault, but I don't know exactly what. He probably flew the aircraft after repair, or for a separate flight for the pupil. |
