Colour scheme Bf-110 II./ZG76
I have been struggling for days to find a Bf-110 image for my research, which could belong to II./ZG76 and had operated in Wertheim or Nuebiberg at that time. I'm pretty sure the plane I was looking for was a "G" and was definitely 2.ZG76. The plane must have been partially painted yellow, because I have an wing tip as a wreck part at home and this one is yellow.
Can anyone help me? |

Re: Colour scheme Bf-110 II./ZG76
...the source that seems most reliable to me speaks of "Stab.II/ZG76" some only "II./ZG76". Last takeoff before crash was from Neubiberg 24.2.1944

Re: Colour scheme Bf-110 II./ZG76
Could it have been a plane that was previously used by ZG1? These were typically yellow in color. ZG1 later became ZG76 I think I know.

Re: Colour scheme Bf-110 II./ZG76
Hi Quax. The 4./5./6.Staffeln of II./ZG76 were all formed from Aufklarungsgruppen in Russia so could have carried over their yellow theatre markings ( fuselge bands, rudders, under wing tips). As I've found them.......
4.St. from 3./NAGr.4 5.St. from 3.(H).11 6.St. from NAGr.6 all with Me110Gs in early 1944. There were many re-designations and movements of Zerstorer units at various times so the (F) and (H) Gruppen may be confused. Regards Nick |

Thank you very much for your explanation. It seems to be getting more complicated than I thought. You might be right that the aircraft you were looking for in (Staff.) II/ZG76 might have had a long history. I found parts which are actually parts of an "F". The part number is clearly documented as "F" in the spare parts directory. Probably this airplane was upgraded to "G(2)". or it was built together from different planes later. It was already 1944. Anyway, all records related to the crash are later a "G2" version. This could explain the coloring. I would like to have an authentic model made. Maybe someone will find a picture of such a Bf-110. |

Re: Colour scheme Bf-110 II./ZG76
Werner Held's caption for this photo says 110G-2s from II./ZG76 in early 1944 (P= 6.Staffel); in front is 2N+BP with yellow band ( and possibly wing-tips).
With reference to earlier comments, either ZG1 with their 2N codes, or ZG76 ex-ZG1 still with their codes rather than M8. There is another photo of a line-up including 2N+NP (6.Staffel) and 2N+AM (4.Staffel); caption is II./ZG76 in early 1944. The same situation. They have the yellow fuselage bands too. One thing though, one 2N+AM in early 1944 was flown by Oblt. Haugk Staffelkapitan of 4./ZG76, it had the typical reduced-size Gescwader codes , yellow band and white "A". It seems that II.Gruppe at least used ZG76's codes at some time in 1943-44. Nick Last edited by Buckeye30; 6th February 2020 at 21:02. |

Re: Colour scheme Bf-110 II./ZG76
Thank you that is very informative. I think the trace might be right. I will buy the book from Werner Held. I don't have that yet and it seems to be a useful investment.

Thanks to Matti Salonen's excellent data, I can identify the above units as: 3./NAGr. 4 3.(H)/11 (NAGr. 1) 2.(H)/33 (NAGr. 6) Do you happen to have to hand the dates when these units were redesignated as Staffeln of II./ZG76? Regards, Dan
