Spitfire Wreckage E-Bay
From German E-Bay;
Looks like a 1943-1944 Spitfire casualty. The number "3" is visible for the serial number. Any ideas? |

Re: Spitfire Wreckage E-Bay
Looks to be a Mk I thru V with the small oil cooler under the left wing. The fuselage roundel looks like it has five rings of color.

Re: Spitfire Wreckage E-Bay
Then it has to be a Spitfire V. The 20mm cannons are visible.

Re: Spitfire Wreckage E-Bay
I would add that it looks like he made a controlled landing that wadded up at the end (stall, cart wheel, etc.), it didn't fall out of the sky like that with so little damage.

Re: Spitfire Wreckage E-Bay
Whatever, it was on the beach north of Etaples. 122 Sqn was at 0' attacking a hutted encampment near Etaples. Nobody saw what happened to him but at the height they were, no chance of baling out.

Re: Spitfire Wreckage E-Bay
Basics: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Royal_Air_Force_roundels
Underwing roundel is fresh (July 1942) from Type A to C. Darker areas be likely just newer (matter) fresh paint. |
