FP Pankowo/SU

Hi all

I'm looking for the location of a town called Pankowo.
This place was in area of Luftflotte 4 (= Ukraine).
Between April and May 1943 NAGr.4 was stationed there.

best wishes

A pair of Pan'kovo less than 150 kms North of Kursk, one less than 200 kms North-East of Kursk, those three in Orlovskaya Oblast.

Re: FP Pankowo/SU

I put all 1,700 of the Russian airfields used by the Luftwaffe up on the Michael Holm website (ww2.dk) about 2 months ago:

Pankowo (RUSS) (a.k.a. Pankow, Pankov, Pan’kovo, Orel-Pankowo, Platz 470) (ZNr. 10-7636) (c. 52 48 07 N – 35 55 02 E) (AFHRA)
General: landing ground (Landeplatz) or emergency landing ground (Notlandeplatz) in W Russia 20 km SSW of Orel and adjacent to the W side of the hamlet of Pankovo. History: no information found. Surface and Dimensions: natural surface of unrecorded dimensions. Infrastructure: probably none specific to the landing ground as farm and village buildings were readily available. Dispersal: no organized dispersal facilities are believed to have been built.
Remarks:
24 Apr 43: had just been completed.
6 Jul 43: emergency landings there by Bf 109s.
Operational Units: see above under Orel; Stab, 1., 2., and 3./NAGr. 4 were based at Pankowo (Pankovo) from 24 April to c. 20 July 1943.
Station Commands: none identified.
Station Units (on various dates – not complete): see above under Orel.

Re: FP Pankowo/SU

Hi Larry

Ups, my default, Pankowo must be in area of Luftflotte 6 (ex Lw.Kdo.Ost).
I have found it. There is a railway station nearby, and a lot of space all around.
All points that are required for an airfield, it looks fine.

Thank you very much

best wishes
