Re: Identify Whitley bomber 51 squadron

Hi Michel,

Is there perhaps a date known , perhaps written on the back of the picture?
Best regards,

Dirk

Re: Identify Whitley bomber 51 squadron

Hi Michel,

This is 51 Sqn Whitley K9048 MH-P, force-landed near Fuglegaarde, west of Glerup at 03.03 hrs after taking Flak hits from Luftwaffe Flak of 3. Flak Division, 23-24 April 1940.

Do you own this picture? I'd be interested in a scan for the first volume of my new series of books!

Cheers, Theo

Hello,

Does not appear to be Whitley IV K9048, which was completely destroyed.

Has Mr Flensted got it right?

Col.

Re: Identify Whitley bomber 51 squadron

Hello Col and Michel,

I have found another Flak claim for a 51 Sqn Whitley MH-P, which appears to be the replacement aircraft for the one that Col mentioned (thanks for the pointer Col!):

11-12 August 1940

-51 Sqn Whitley P4983: severely shot up by heavy Flak of M. Flak Abt. 252 battery Hohemey and force-landed on Jever airfied at 05.52 hrs.

I think this fits the bill -in Michel's photo one can see airfield buildings in the background.

Looking forward to receiving your PM Michel!

Cheers, Theo
