10/11 May 1944 – Mosquito Intruder over France

Hello/Bonjour,

An entry in the war diary of the Flugzeugführerschule B 15 [a German flying school located on the Bourges airfield, France] states: “Last night a Mosquito airplane flew over the airfield and dropped two bombs on the runway. Flak opened fire towards the latter which immediately departed the area.” I am looking for the involved RAF Squadron, whose Mossies are accustomed to prowl around the airfields of Bourges, Avord or Clermont-Ferrand.

Best regards,
Frederic

F/O E H Dunkley and P/O H P Woodward bombed Bourges in a 464 Sqn Mosquito (LR383)

One of 54 Mosquito Intruder/Ranger/Patrol sorties that night

Regards

Merci beaucoup Martin. BTW, did you have any additional details about this mission? Or the ORBs are not talktative? So, your first answer is already highly invaluable for my research work. Once again, thank you.

Best regards,
Frederic

Hello Frederic,
I've attached a copy of the 464 Sqn ORB for the night 10/11-May-44. You can search through the digitized records of the National Archives Australia online, via the link:
http://recordsearch.naa.gov.au/Searc...sicSearch.aspx

It can be a bit hit and miss, based on what documents have been scanned to date. I entered 464 Squadron and the period 1941 to 1945. It came up with several pages list of documents. Hit the "digitized file" column header and it moves all the scanned files to the top of the search list.

Good luck and happy factophiling,
...geoff
