Hungarian Pilot
In this morning's Washington (DC) Post obituaries:
Tamas A. deKun (born Kokai-Kun Tamas Akos) originally from Sarospatak, Hungary. Graduated from military academy in Koszeg and became lieutenant in Royal Hungarian Air Force. Flew combat missions in WWII against Russians in Poland. Was interned by Russians after the war, eventually immigrating to the US in 1959. 81 years old. |

Thanks for the sad news. However, the obituary is not correct. Tamás Kókai Kun never flew any combat sorties and graduated as a tartalékos zászlós (reserve Ensign), not as a 2nd Lieutenant. His class graduated on 15 November, 1944, but it was an accelerated graduation because of the end of the war. His class flew the Bü 131's and Ar 96's only, they were far from the combat planes. One Hungarian combat (fighter) pilot passed away in October in the USA. Only very few are still with us, most of them in very bad health... |
