Stinson 12157
Hi
The Stinson NC 12157 "Mobiloil" was 1932 with Harry White in Europa. Places was Zürich, Basel, Rouen, Le Bourget, Hamburg and Berlin. Have anyone the exact date of the European tour. Greeting Christian |

Re: Stinson 12157
Christian
Without wishing to be pertinent, this is a rather civil request rather than a military one. However checking what type it was (model R) you can find out a little by googling the details. What comes up is that the aircraft was still in USA in March 1932, had reached Rouen in May and also Le Bourget (the same month). It was in Basel that same year, and according to John Wegg it was based in Belgium. So rather than being on a tour of Europe, it seems more likely the aircraft was used as a company travelling machine. With regard to Harry White, it seems San Diego Air and Space Museum has some of his photos and perhaps documents as well. Cheers Stig |

Re: Stinson 12157
Apparently in use by Mobil Oil's London office in 1932. See https://rareaircraft.com/wp-content/...es-article.pdf

Re: Stinson 12157
Nice find Leendert
No idea where Mobiloil had their HQ in the 1930s, but London feels more plausible than Brussels. It is stated under the photo, it was taken over by Club de Aviateurs de Bruxelles in 1933, but I cannot find any OO registration for it. Did they use it with its US registration all the way up to 1939? Finally the text says it returned to England and became a Staff transport with the RAF. I cannot find a single impressment/purchase in 1939-40 which would match that statement. Can't believe it flew with RAF still in its US civil registration. What actually happened to it?? Re: Stinson 12157
Thanks again L.
When checking X8522 it was listed as a Stinson Junior in my records, so I discarded it and kept looking..... Looking at G-AFUW I see it is registered as a Stinson Junior R Nice to tie this one up for good! Cheers Stig |
