Re: 1st Lt Schams Bernard William 451BG/725BS
Schams was the co-pilot on B-24 42-51941, MACR 10682.
MACR starts here: https://www.fold3.com/image/28701536 42-51941 (726th #47) Left the USA on September 21,1944, arriving at the group on September 18, 1944. Listed as MIA after Mission #168 to Ordertal Oil Refinery on December 17, 1944. Involved in a mid-air collision with the lead ship, 42-52045, while leaving the target. The pilot, Theodore King and crew were killed in the mishap except for one survivor, Joseph Weisler, a photographer (and 11th crew member). They were flying in the deputy lead position. As the group made the turn off target the lead ship dropped down apparently leaving the formation and King moved his ship into the lead position. The lead ship, however, did not leave the formation but climbed back into position, hitting King's ship with the number one propeller and nearly shearing off the tail of 42-51941. King's ship fell out of formation and went into a spin. One parachute was seen. Crash location is approximately 50 28 N, 18 04 E.
