The Kurt Mueller's of I/ZG2

Good afternoon: I am trying to differentiate which of the Two (or both?) Kurt Mueller's had served in Poland with I/ZG2. The confusion for me is their rank. On 7.4.40 "Fw" Kurt Mueller was KIA while serving with 3/ZG2. While the unit, 3/ZG2, is the same,The Kurt Mueller who claimed a victory on 15.9.39 was an "Ofw" which I believe is a rank higher. The Kurt Mueller, who was S/D, and POW as Staffelfuhrer of 2/ZG2 was a "Oblt", which was 3 ranks higher than the Ofw. Mueller of Poland, which seems a rather rapid and significant increase in rank over 1 year. Can anyone clarify this for me? Any help greatly appreciated. Thanks Dean

Re: The Kurt Mueller's of I/ZG2

I don’t know if this is one of the guys that concern you but it may:

MÜLLER, Kurt.
(DOB: 11.07.12).
(n.d.) with 4.St. J/88 of the Condor Legion in Spain.
13.02.42 Hptm., appt Staka 3./JFS 4 (to 31.10.42).
01.11.42 Hptm., appt Kdr. IV./Zerstörerschule 2 (to 15.01.43).
01.07.43 Hptm., appt Kommodore JG 108 (to 07.44).
01.05.44 promo to Maj.
21.01.45 Maj., appt Kdr. III./JG 6 (to 08.05.45).

No Mueller seems to apply.

We hope that this helps.

Re: The Kurt Mueller's of I/ZG2

Hi Doug: Thanks for your reply. I don't think this is the guy, as the "Oblt" Kurt Mueller with I/ZG2 was shot down and taken POW in early September 1940. I do notice however, that there appears to be 2 different Mueller's (different ranks at least) who made claims in Spain, at different times. As it is such a common name in German, it's very difficult to nail down with any certainty. Thanks again Dean.

A question for Doug up in the Great White North. Are you sure that the Kurt Müller you list is the one who served in Spain rather than one who was shot down over England on 3 Sept. 1940?

Regards,
Tom
