Ju 188 B2 Stand cover/Abdeckkappe

Hi all,

I was wondering if anyone had definite information about the cover used when the turret in the B2 position of the Ju 188 was not installed? Specifically in relation to the antenna mounted up there on KG66 and Kommando Rastedter machines. Would the antenna go through this cover or be mounted somewhere else?

According to the manual, it is called, somewhat ambiguously, Abdeckkappe. This is not mentioned in the canopy glass panel overviews, and no other details about it are included.

The clearest pictures showing the area are from the well-known aircraft captured and re-marked in Italy in 44/45. These seem to show a glass part with two horizontal metal stripes across. The later however, are not included in the completely flat and uniform drawing of the cover in the manual.

Thanks,
David

Not sure if any of these will help. I don't completely understand what antennae you are asking about.

Re: Ju 188 B2 Stand cover/Abdeckkappe

Thanks for posting that image of the plane captured in Italy that I was referring too.

Find attached another photograph showing the top cover better; As you can see it seems to be glass with metal reinforcements. It also appears to be bulging out. This, however, is in contrast to the flight manual‘s depiction of Rüstsatz W4, the cover.

Also find attached images of the two antenna carrying aircraft. The question is if these look like they are mounted on the cover to you? If so, what does that imply for the kind of cover used?
