Fw Werner Nelte

Fighter pilot with JG54 and JG400 (7 kills). He was shot down on 14 April 1945 by SL JB Shepherd of 41 Sqn. I have read he was piloting a bf110 tow-plane and was killed, and that he was flying an Me163 and survived. Can anyone confirm which of these is correct, and what version of Bf110 was in use by JG400 at this time?
