Re: 60 years after German KL Auchwitz-Birkenau

I would contribute this thought;
1. The good American, British and Israeli people now behave like fascists committing aggression and torture in some ways like the bad Germans of the 1930s.
2. Although receiving less than half the national vote, Hitler seized power as a result of the Reichstag fire set by Goering. Nazi jurist Carl Schmitt wrote the legal opinion justifying Hitler's Enabling Act.
3. Carl Schmitt arranged for Leo Strauss to leave Germany on a Rockefeller fellowship in 1932. Leo Strauss ended up at the University of Chicago.
4. Leo Strauss' Neocon disciples took over the Bush administration which had less than half the national vote. (Shortly before 9/11 Rumsfeld complained that "Likud has taken over the building"; see http://www.serendipity.li/iraqwar/ignoble_liars.htm)
5. The destruction of the Twin Towers had the same effect as the Reichstag fire. It acted as the catalyst to enable Neocon fascism.
6. In 1939 Britain rallied the world against fascism. But only one major country has immunity from the fascist virus and can fulfill the same role today.
7. Germany, the nation that brought us Auschwitz, could yet save civilization.

In respect to the original thread's content and aim, I think we are digressing and maybe should start a new thread if we are so inclined to carry this further.

Re: SPLIT: 60 years after German KL Auchwitz-Birkenau

I do not consider myself an historian by any stretch, but here is my two cents worth: Industry may benefit from war but it is usually religion that starts them. I am not saying the Church or the chosen leader of a particular religion but rather the followers belief that they are right and others must conform to their beliefs. I believe even WWII had a lot more religion in it than Hitler's view of the Jewish religion. The Middle Eastern Theatre and the African Theatre pitted sects against each other. I would count the Korean and Vietnam Wars in the sense that Communism eliminates religion.
