Arado Ar 64C 09.39
Hello,
Recently looking at Volker Koos Arado Flugzeugwerke (bought following Pawel's thread on the Ar 240) I note that he mentions two Arado Ar 64C with Flieger-Technische Schule 3, S7 +Y21 & S7+ Y22 as of September 1939. I was quite surprised to see examples of this type still extant in September 1939. Were they employed solely for Ground Instruction purposes or actually flown at all? In fact to were most machines with a Flieger-Technische Schule purely for mechanical training of ground crew? Regards, Clint |

Re: Arado Ar 64C 09.39
As far as I know the S7+Y01 to Y29 were allocated to FFS B Salzwedel from 1938/39. They may have been transferred to FTS 3 from Sept.1939. The FTS Units employed aircraft for flight and use for ground crews.

Re: Arado Ar 64C 09.39
Thanks for the information Tom. Are any of these known to have received a Stammkennzeichen in due course or did they all retain the old style unit markings?

Thanks for the information Tom. So perhaps greater numbers in use in September 1939 than I initially thought. Are any of these known to have received a Stammkennzeichen in due course or did they all retain the old style unit markings?

Re: Arado Ar 64C 09.39
The TJ+HL at Travemünde was the Ar 199 V3 WNr. 3673.

Re: Arado Ar 64C 09.39
I have an early fleet list with the Ar64 (giving its c/n) and a later fleet list with the Ar 199
So Stemmer obviously does not have a copy of the earlier doc I have other "second use " at both Rechlin and Travemunde |

Re: Arado Ar 64C 09.39
Thank you all for the responses so far.
Tony, could I ask what is the source of the earlier document? Also was this reallocation of Stkz a common practice at Rechlin,or indeed other evaluation centres? Regards, Clint |

Re: Arado Ar 64C 09.39
Both a/c from Fl.Techn. School 3 were in Sep 1939 not in flyable condition.
So they were probably used for training of the ground crew. Regards Dirk |
