Re: photo ID needed, possibly 23 or 605 squadron
Chris, all
I have uploaded the best quality I can, this photo is so small and guess a imagine from a Box Brownie. I have removed by fat thumb but added a pen, purely for copyright reasons, I hope you understand mate. I am not sure in the med, as some of the chaps are wearing blues?? Maybe a hot British summer. As mentioned possibly 23, 605 squadron. Thank you all for your time and help. Cheers Danny

Re: photo ID needed, possibly 23 or 605 squadron
Hello,
I think the photograph possibly depicts No.66 Squadron RAF during the Battle of Britain. The airman with his arms folded, looks suspiciously like Hubert Raymond "Dizzy" Allen. The others bear some resemblance to members of 66 Sqn. Col. Last edited by Col Bruggy; 13th April 2021 at 01:49. |

Re: photo ID needed, possibly 23 or 605 squadron
Hello,
I have just dredged out my copy of "Ten Fighter Boys". Lo and Behold!, between pages 48-49 is exactly the same photograph, with the following caption: (Bottom, l, to r,) : Peter, Cookie, Billie, John, Dizzy, Duggie, Bogie, Johnnie, Ken, Lucky Leigh, Hugh, Apple. I won't spoil people's fun by naming them, but more than a "Few" didn't make old bones. See: Ten Fighter Boys. Forbes, Athol DFC, W/Cdr & Hubert Allen DFC, S/Ldr (Editors) London:Collins,1942. Photo & caption, between pp.48-9. Col. |
