Raum Map UK
Does anyone have such a map for 1941? Simon Parry's book shows Raum A-C but where was Raum D and was it in the area Leicester-Woburn-Reading-Salisbury-Trowbridge-Gloucester?

Re: Raum Map UK
Chris - in our 'Kauz' book, Mikael Olrog notes (Ch.7 footnote 22):
The Germans created three patrol areas over eastern England called Räume (areas) A, B and C. Raum A was the area from Middlesborough to Hull, with York and Leeds in the centre, Raum B was from Hull to Boston by the coast and the line from Leeds via Sheffield to Nottingham, while Raum C covered the area from Boston to Felixstowe on the coast, with the line going from Nottingham to Bedford to Felixstowe. A fourth Raum (F) was added in June 1941. There is an illustration of these areas on p.91. From memory, our map guy and Mikael agreed to create Raum F based on 'best guess' evidence - the Raum extends from North to South from Leicester-Woburn-Reading-Salisbury then West to Trowbridge, North to Gloucester, and North-East back to Leicester no mention of Raum D

Re: Raum Map UK
Thanks Rich. This accords with what I had worked out based on what was found in the crash of one of the Ju 88s of I./NJG 2 in July 1941 but what happened to Raum D & E? F would have been beyond the capabilities of few remaining Do 17Z-10 by June 1941 in my opinion, their last loss being in RaumC in May 1941

Re: Raum Map UK
Chris,
Great question, been wondering about these area codes myself and missed the map in Parry's book....and now Richdlc has provided a more recent one. Have done some digging in the Luftflotte 3 Einzelmeldung that I have. Einzelmeldung in June 1941 start to mention various Raum but confined to A, B, C and F. Raum F is mentioned in the Luftflotte 3 Einzelmeldung Nr 2 of 4.10.41. The following are mentioned in the Einzelmeldung relating to "Raum F", however some are definitely not in the suggested area of "F": - Hemswell (in "B"), Upper Heyford, Leamington, Marham (on the edge of "C"), Norwich-Catton (not in any Raum), Bicester, Colerne (maybe a bit to the west of the suggested "F"), Oxford and Waterbeach (from the maps appears to be in "C"). Could not find reference to Raum D in the Einzelmeldung that I have. Also sample checked July 1941 Lagebericht and could not find reference to any Raum under the reports for Fernnachtjagd. So, if there is a Raum D will there be a Raum E as well? What is your source for Raum D?

Re: Raum Map UK
Thanks Andy. Not got a source for D-just a puzzle as it jumps from C to F. Also surely Raum A-C would cover up to the east coast as there were targets there (which were attacked)?

Re: Raum Map UK
What is the gap/corridor between Raum C and Raum F - does this mean this area was not patrolled?

Re: Raum Map UK
From memory, our map guy and Mikael agreed to create Raum F based on 'best guess' evidence, the map is approximate. I guess the map guy took our instructions literally

Re: Raum Map UK
I have looked at Simon Parry's map. All 3 Raum cover the east coast (logical), Raum A goes as far south as Essex, then west clipping London while Raum C goes much further north. It would be nice to know which is the more accurate!
