Info Needed on famous P-38 crash...
Hey guys...
I recently picked up some reconnaissance P-38 Lightning crash parts from a wreck that has some history in Germany. It was shot down by a German aircraft (presumably from an me109) around April 1945 near NEUKIRCHEN Autobahn München-Salzburg. There is still a crater there from the impact, and a prop and engine are in a private collection. Apparently, the pilot bailed out around 10 meters (jumped into a field), and broke some bones. He then fled to a farmhouse, where he healed until the allies advanced into that area. He survived the war and also visited the wrecksite many years ago. Does this sound familiar to anyone? |

Re: Info Needed on famous P-38 crash...
Hi Mike !
This list is only for starting, something of a bit's&pieces thing. Some suggestions though: 1. You could enter the aircraft type ("F-5") and the serial (""42-67391") into google, like (don't forget the brackets): http://www.google.ch/search?hl=de-CH...j1.CnHHezder3o Often you will find more info on that specific loss. 2. You could also enter into Google f.ex. the following terms: "42-67391" site:www.fold3.com like: http://www.google.ch/search?q=+%2242...Awww.fold3.com+ If you open one of the indicated fold3 documents you cannot get access to the fulltext file, but at the right column low down you will very often find the crash location ("Location:") of that lost aircraft taken from the MACR (which doesn't necessarily mean that this is the true crash location). With a little luck ... bye, FrankieS |

Re: Info Needed on famous P-38 crash...
The closest Neukirchen to the Autobahn would be the one near Passau.
