Julio Salvador Díaz-Benjumea claims in Russia?

Hello,

In some old notes, I have that Julio Salvador Díaz-Benjumea (15. (Spain)/JG 51 (http://surfcity.kund.dalnet.se/spain_salvador.htm) made two claims in Russia when he claimed two LaGG-3s, one on 22/08/42 and a second on 29/10/42.
However, more "modern" research don't credit him with any victories in Russia.

Is there anyone, whith more knowledge in this?

Best wishes/Håkan Gustavsson

Re: Julio Salvador Díaz-Benjumea claims in Russia?

Hi,

In JFV 9/II, page 370, the victory list of 15.(span)/JG 51, there are two victory claims for Julio Salvador Díaz-Benjumea, as per your records, on 22 August and 29 October 1942.

However, in the LW victory claim list that I got through Michael Balss, there is none.

Regards,
Sinisa

Hello Sinisa,

Thanks for your quick reply!

Your statement is exactly the same as I have and the reason why I asked the question.

Hello Håkan,

You are very welcome. Otherwise, my statement is not exactly the same as yours - the difference is that I provided you with some real references (i.e., other than the one you found on the surfcity.se).

Regards,
Sinisa

Re: Julio Salvador Díaz-Benjumea claims in Russia?

Hi Guys

Reason why I have not mentioned these two claims is that they do not appear on the mikrofilm daily entries(in the East) for these dates, everybody else's do appear, I therefore conclude in my opinion that this is previous false information, or actual claims that did not meet Luftwaffe protocol.

There is also for this Geschwader only a daily mikrofilm, and again these claims are absent i.e never officially confirmed by the RLM.

Kind Regards

Johannes

Re: Julio Salvador Díaz-Benjumea claims in Russia?

Julio Salvador Benjumea NO tuvo derribos en el Frente del Este. Él era el Comandante Inspector de la Segunda Escuadrilla Azul.
Julio Salvador Benjumea..... did NOT have confirmed air strikes on the Eastern Front. He had 24 air strikes in the Spanish Civil War.

Antonio
