Need code and photo of unit emblem used on Hs126Bs of 2.(H)/23 during the WC of 1940

Hello,

We've just identified for the EoE Project the first wreckage of an Hs126 from 2.(H)/23 that crashed not far from the Agincourt battlefield in France on 22 May 1940. Since it is just a pile of wreckage and a field grave for the dead observer we can't see any unit emblem (known from the latest Barry Ketley book) or the a/c codes. Neither my reference books nor the unit references on the internet provide the code used by this unit. Does anyone know what that would have been? Does anyone have a photo of the insignia that would have been used on this a/c during the WC? Ketley shows it as a shield with an oak leaf above two rank wings.

Does anyone have any photography of a/c used by that unit during 1939-40, either crashes or intact?

Who can help as we're going to have trouble with this unit for profils due to the lack of photos for subjects.

Regards,

Hello,

An off-board email to me has suggested that this a/c could be 6K+_K, and referred me to a post thread on the LEMB, where apparently some photos show the insignia of this unit's a/c during 1940 with the possible unit code of 6K.

If anyone can supply further information than is provided there, please respond.

Hi, Larry...

Some of the images I have of 2(H)./Aufkl.Gr.23 aircraft have already been seen on the LEMB thread you refer to, but I have attached below others which may be of help to you, or not, as the case may be!

Sadly, only one appears to have the unit insignia appended although a few have their forward fuselage in shadow so it's difficult to determine. Judging from the style of markings on some, they may be from the earliest period of the war, but I hope in some way they may be helpful.

From (L) to (R) - 1) Unsure of location or timeline. 2) Caption with image states 'Flugplatz Heiligenbeil'. 3, 4 & 5) a set of three showing the same aircraft - note early style dimensions and position of markings. 6) interesting if only because of its light-coloured codes.

All are from expired ebay auctions dated 9.2.2011, 29.12.2011, 18.5.2012 & 23.1.2014.

Kindest regards,

Paul

Paul,

It turns out that I have many of these photos in the EoE Photo DB, but all coded for AGr41. Is it certain that 6K was the code of AGr23, and not AGr41?

If 6K was the code for AGr23, then what was the a/c code for AGr41?

Regards,

6K was the code of Aufkl.Gr. 23 and C2 of Aufkl.Gr. 41.

Hello,

Thanx Paul and Matti. Have straightened out the coding in the EoE DB now. Have lots of images from both AGr23 and AGr41 now to work with.
