Estonian veteran pilots visiting Finland

Dear all,

the tradition to invite foreign veteran pilots to give a lecture in Finland is continuing.
After Generalleutnant Günther Rall (two visits), Wing Commander Robert Foster, General Vasilj Reshetnikov, Hauptman Peter Spoden (two visits) and Leutnant Klaus J Scheer (two visits), The Finnish Aviation Museum Society is proud to present our next foreign guests.

Hendrik Arro, Kaljo Alaküla, Valdo Raag and Feliks Prodo are giving a lecture at the Finnish Aviation Museum at Vantaa on Sunday, 27th of May at 14.00 o´clock.
All these gentlemen were Estonian volunteers in German Luftwaffe. Arro, Alaküla and Raag were trained as pilots and Prodo as rear gunner at Latvia during the winter 1943-1944.
They joined Nachtschlachtgruppe 11 in May-June 1944 and took part in the heavy defensive battles in Estonia (Narva etc.) during the summer 1944. They flew nightbombing and harassment missions with obsolete biplanes (He 50, Ar 66, Fokker C-VE). After their unit was dispanded, they took part in the last bitter battles in ground troops.

The lecture will be interpreted to Finnish language by a wellknown member of this board, Kari Lumppio.

More details (only in Finnish, sorry) and pictures (click on kuvia vieraista) can be found here: http://www.ilmailumuseoyhdistys.fi/a...raat_2007.html

Additional background information can be read in a book by Hendrik Arro: "Viron lentäjät taistelujen tulessa", which is available at least from the Aviation Shop, Helsinki.

You are very welcome to join this special event. The fee to the museum and to the lecture is 6 Euros.

On behalf of the Finnish Aviation Museum Society
