Ju88 shot down Nr Warminster
I think this is the Ju88 down at Imber, nr Warminster. 17/9/40.
Damaged by spitfires of 152 Sqn it landed with wheels up. Markings were L1+XC and all in black which is unusual - on the photo you can't see the codes It was from Stab II/LG1 and was on its way to Speke (Liverpool). Can anyone give any more information. Regards Danny Attachment 6051 |

Re: Ju88 shot down Nr Warminster
Gentlemen...
Agreed, a very interesting photo, and much information provided by you all. However, I have a question. Peter has kindly provided information which may indicate this is an A-1 sub-type, yet closer examination of its right wing clearly shows it has an 'inserted' aileron and the wintip extends beyond this control surface. Might this not be, in fact, an A-5 instead? I am of the understanding that some damaged machines were rebuilt at the repair yards with parts from other aircraft. Could this perhaps be one of those, refitted with a later wing, but originally constructed as an A-1? Yours in confusion , Paul Last edited by obdl3945; 18th July 2011 at 19:52.
