Re: help with japanese pilots claims

Hello,

Re: Kuroe's Mosquito claim on 2 November, 1943. The following loss is known:

2 November 1943
No.684 Sqn, RAF.
Mosquito PR.II DZ697 "J"

Took off Chittagong 0900 on a PR sortie over the Rangoon area. There is some dispute whether the loss was caused by Kuroe, or to catastrophic structural failure, probably both. The two airmen were thrown out as the aircraft broke up and were buried where they fell, in adjacent paddy fields, half-a-mile south of Kyaungyi village, Burma. After hostilities the two airmen were reinterred at Taukkyan War Cemetery,

113753 F/O (Pilot) Ernest Angus FIELDING RAFVR +
NZ40744 F/O (Nav.) Robert Alfred TURTON MiD RNZAF +

NB. The CWGC register entries record the crew as members of 681 Sqn, RAF, also based at Dum Dum. However, that unit's twin-engine aircraft and their crews were withdrawn at the end of October and used to form 684 Sqn. Whether the airmen were on temporary attachment or permanently posted to the new unit is unknown. Turton's posting to 681 Sqn had preceded his death by only 11 days.

See:
For Your Tomorrow:A Record of New Zealanders who have Died while serving with the RNZAF and Allied Air Services since 1915. Volume Two: Fates 1943-1998.
Martyn,Errol.
Christchurch:Volplane Press,1999.
p.157.

Re: help with japanese pilots claims

hi,
many thanks for your fast response,
about the allied losses and claims of this pilot i found many info
but i think i don´t have some claims 33 of 38? 50?

the other mosquito 10.12.43 seems:

Mosquito DZ696 (F/O Eugene Cotton and Flt. Sgt. Raymond Edwards Woods , 684 Sqn.) after 40 minutes pursuit he sat just 160 feet below and behind the Mosquito. From there he shot up its left engine. Despite his Oscar's guns jamming he bluffed the Mosquito crew into turning back to land. They flew back to Kuroe's base in formation, when Kuroe instructed the Mosquito to land. Unfortunately, the Mosquito hit a tree and crashed fatally

in other sources i see different names:
¿DZ697/S Sgts Boot and E A Wilkins KIA shot down over Rangoon?
¿DZ697/S Sgt Geoffrey Maurice Bools and E A Wilkins?

regards

Re: help with japanese pilots claims

How is your Japanese? http://www.jacar.go.jp has the Tactical Operation Records for many IJNAF units, including most of the units Takeo Tanimizu flew with. They have info of aerial victories (probably by flight rather than pilot).

Re: help with japanese pilots claims

The Chris Shores book Bloody Shambles and Air war over Burma should give you some information on these claims over Malaya and Burma.

Re: help with japanese pilots claims

Hello,

I looked through my lists on Kuroe and have some differences:
26.01.42 2 x enemy aircraft over Endau
26.11.42 1 shared B-24 over Rangoon
20.02.43 I have this Hurricane as destroyed (not shared)
05.03.43 Claim over Akyab
09.04.43 I have only 1 shared on this date
01.12.43 I have this B-24 as a shared

In my lists I manage 25 claims with dates and have 5 without dates - 3 witth 47th Chutai and 2 with 64th Sentai.

Any thought or input on this would be most welcome!

Best wishes/Håkan

Thumbs up Re: help with japanese pilots claims

hi,
thanks for your help Hakans,
i send you some info last months about SCW...

about this claim:
20.02.43 I have this Hurricane as destroyed (not shared)

i have all this info i found in webs:

20,02,43 Ki43 64th Sentai Hurricane Destroyed ¿claimed Shared or complete? Near Maungdaw 1 ->135 Sqn Flt Lt G Booyson, shared with Sgt Yoshito Yasuda and Sgt Maj Hosogawa (damaged at first by Kuroe, Yasuda, Hosogawa and finally finished by Kuroe in a second pass), the fighter plunged into the jungle.

my error seems a complete claim...

about this claim:
05.03.43 Claim over Akyab

i have:
05,03,43 Ki43 64th Sentai Hurricane Destroyed Claimed 6 destroyed but only one was lost (no place)

about this claim:
09.04.43 I have only 1 shared on this date

i have:

09,04,43 Ki43 64th Sentai Hurricane Destroyed Shared Chittagong 67 Sqn, shared with Sgt Miyoshi Watanabe that finished it.

09,04,43 Ki43 64th Sentai Hurricane Destroyed Shared Chittagong 67 Sqn, Shared with Watanabe. The aircraft of Sqn Ldr J Bachmann belched out smoke while jinking at low altitude, Kuroe finished it and the plane hit a house and exploded

maybe you are right...duplicated? i don´t know

about this:

01.12.43 I have this B-24 as a shared

i have:

01,12,43 Ki43 64th Sentai B-24 Destroyed Rangoon ->Lt John McLauchlen 436 BS damaged by AA finished by fighters. Watched it crash into the jungle, also damaged by WO Kinoshita and WO Yamashita. Claimed 10 B-24 and losses were 3 (B-24 capt William Wright shoot down, B-24 Lt Carl Carpenter blow up in mid-air and a third went down in flames) and 5 more damaged.

you are right this bomber was shared...

many thanks for help,
regards
