Helmut Nagel

I was hoping someone could shed some light on Confirmed Night Victories I Have a set of documents to The aboved named pilot in his Flugbuch and Leistungsbuch he has three confirmed victories, but when I looked at my book Nightfighter combat claims 1939-1945 by J.Foreman,J.Matthews and Simon Parry I find that on the night 31.12.42-1.1.43 Nagel shot down a Wellington Bomber, but in the flugbuch, and Leistungsbuch there are no recorded flights for that night. Any help would be appriciated.
Steven.

Re: Helmut Nagel

Hi Steven,

the simple answer is that the claims book is incorrect! As you will know, Nagel made one claim before the 'erroneous' date, and two after...

With the claims book, information has been used that often has no provenance (such as the claims lists compiled by the late Emil Nonnenmacher) or that has not been crossed-checked, leading to errors.

Cheers

Rod

Re: Helmut Nagel

Steven, do the documents contain information on his flying in Poland in 1939? Do you have any good portrait of the man?
