Pre-War LW accidents Data or KIA register - exist?
Does anyone know, if there is some kind of Luftwaffe PRE-WAR accidents or register of Aviators killed in flying accidents (1935-1939 period)?
I do have a photograph of a burial held in Halle (possibly Nietleben), taken before the war (probably 1938 or early 1939), showing 6 coffins. Since the machines shown inside the huge Hangar (Staffel-1) are Do 23 and Fw 56, I do believe the frame of time is correct. Where could I find the possible names for 6-7 Aviators killed on the same DATE, pre-war? Any advice? A. |

There are reports by the Deutsche Versuchsanstalt für Luftfahrt beginning January 1936.

From the A.D.I.(K) Captured Documents lists in AIR40/1182, specifically Item 10 List 151, there is also reference to an intriguing document 'Liste der tödlichen Flugunfälle im Berech der Luftwaffe’ covering 1938-1939.
I've drawn a complete blank on this in my research so have disappointingly concluded it was destroyed some time shortly after the end of the war. |

I see that it seems those files are not digitalized and, if they look "almost inaccessible" for European Historians like you, it will be harder for me, from where I am, to have either a glimpse.
I am trying to contact some Halle cemiteries...maybe they do have a list of LW airmen killed between 1938 and early 1939. As previously reported, I believe that there was a crash between a Do 11 or Do 23 and another training machine....or between 3 training machines (with 2 Aviators each). The photo I do have do show 6 coffins being Honored on the main Hangar of Halle-Saale, with families, LW personnel, etc....before the 2nd WW. Period may be 1938-mid 1939...To loose one or two in training is normal in most Air Forces, but to loose 6 in a single accident may have been a sad date to record...Maybe the Cemiteries do have such an entry recorded....I shall try anyway to find more about this accident. Re: Pre-War LW accidents Data or KIA register - exist?
Adriano, I did a quick search on Ries´book and could not find a matching crash BUT among the ones in the book I found few ones with Ju52/3m with several casualities. I can speculate due the high number of cofins in the photo the dead ones may be from one of these crashes...

Adriano,
The archives listing of this link https://gsta.preussischer-kulturbesi...eburg_komplett speaks on p. 72 of a Ju-52 crash at Halle on 1.10.1936. Unit: Heeres- und Luftnachrichtenschule based in same town. Perhaps Ju-52 experts can help you further to see if date matches with a known loss.. Regards, Leendert |

Re: Pre-War LW accidents Data or KIA register - exist?
SERGIO,
Would you be able to photograph or scan me the entry for the crash that Gerhard Stemmer mentioned and that one that Leendert mentioned, if possible? It has been a long time since we last talked and met...and what about the book about the Fw 58? LEENDERT, thank you very very much for that piece of information regarding the crash at Halle on the 1st October 1936. A. |
