II./StG77 based at "St Rémy" France or Belgium during June, 1940?
Hello,
I've recently seen a photo of a 4./StG77 Ju87B that has written next to it "St Rémy Juni 1940." Can anyone confirm the bases for II./St.G77 during the French Campaign, and help me determine whether this might be in Belgium or France, where there are many "St Rémy's" listed? There is only one that comes up in Belgium, in the south, and this could be the place, depending on when in June, 1940, the photo was taken. Can anyone help here? Thanks |

Re: II./StG77 based at "St Rémy" France or Belgium during June, 1940?
To answer your question, I must refer to the manuscript of our forthcoming book “Dive-Bomber and Ground-Attack Units of the Luftwaffe” Volume 1 which contains a mini-history of St.G. 77.
Unfortunately, the information dealing with bases for II./St.G. 77 is not totally clear but we estimate that it is virtually the same as that for I./St. G. 77: 10 May: at Köln-Butzweilerhof [II/77] 11 May: moved forward from Köln-Butzweilerhof to Aachen [I/77] 18 June: to the Auxerre area/156 km south-south-east of Paris. [II/77] 16 May: moved forward to St-Trond/31 km north-west of Liège [I/77] 19 May: advanced to Rocroi/ c.20 km north of Charleville Mézières and remained there until at least 2 June. [I/77] 5 June: now operating from Guise-Crupilly/34 km east of St-Quentin. ([I/77] 11 June: advanced to Maast/50 km west of Reims. [I/77] 14 June: moved forward to Courgivaux/86 km east of Paris. [I/77] 18 June: to Auxerre/156 km south-south-east of Paris. {I/77] 25-28 June to La Ferté near Caen. [I/77] 25-28 June to the Caen area in Normandy. [II/77] As for “St Rémy”, we have no reference to such a place and cannot find it with Vectorglobe or Google Earth, which normally can find almost anyplace. For the operational details see our book which will become available in November: http://www.ianallanpublishing.com/pr...9&cat=0&page=1 Volume 2 to follow in March 2010: http://www.amazon.com/Bomber-Ground-...4667635&sr=1-1 We hope that this helps, HLdZ DGS |

Re: II./StG77 based at "St Rémy" France or Belgium during June, 1940?
Remi,
Are you sure that the house for your mother isn't just to hide the Ju87B from the FC that you found intact in the high weeds on your property? Doug, Thanks for your input. So far still no decisive answer for the photo info. One of these you've mentioned may be near the one of about 50 places in Belgium and France that carry the name "St Rémy." I will be one of the first customers for you new book. I hope that we can solve this one. The image isn't of a crash but an intact a/c so I assume that it is on a field landing ground or airstrip, although that's not 100% certain. Maybe it made a forced landing with battle damage away from an airfield. Anybody else have something to contribute? Regards, |

Hello,
In a private email to me, Robert has suggested: "could it be: 5580 Rochefort Abbaye de Saint-Remy in Belgium?" Does anyone have any comment on that as a possibility for this location? Thanx, |
