Losses of 1./Aufkl. St. (F)/ Ob. d. Lw.

Hi,

1./Aufkl. St. (F)/ Ob. d. Lw. in May of 1942, numerous Junkers Ju 86P long-range reconnaissance aircraft of 1./Aufkl. Gr. Ob. d. L. were transferred to Kastelli, Crete.
Anyone out there with info about losses of this unit starting from Crete??

thanks in advance

Hi Byron,

This is what I have on the Ju 86 R-1s operated by 2.(F)/123 from Kastelli:

24 Aug 42 Ju 86 R-1 Oblt. Bermo Biereye and Ofw. Helmut Dorries shot up by P/O G. Reynolds of 103 M.U., landed safely

29 Aug 42 Ju 86 R-1 865144 4U+Dk Hptm. Helmut Rammig and Ltn. Kolw suffered engine failure, ditched 100 km. S. of Crete, rescued.

6 Sep 42 Ju 86 R-1 865101 shot up by P/O Genders and Gold of 103 M.U., crash-landed behind German lines at Bir el Abd, 60% - A/C destroyed by retreating German troops.

11 Nov 42 Ju 86 R-1 860479 15% damaged in crash-landing at Fl. Pl. Gadurra, Rhodes.

14 Feb 43 Ju 86 R-1 Oblt. Franz Hessinger and Ltn. Kolw suffered engine failure over TobruK, belly-landed on southern Crete at Timbaki

2 Jul 43 Ju 86 R-1 860292 4U+IK Ltn. Franz Stock and Uffz. Heinz-Udo Kannenberg shot down by No. 80 Sqn. RAF and 103 M.U. on sortie to Alexandria.

Sorry for all the gaps and missing werknummern.

Re: Losses of 1./Aufkl. St. (F)/ Ob. d. Lw.

Hello Jim,

thank you very much, that is all i needed. I had these losses under 2.(F) 123 and didn`know they belonged to Aufklärungsgruppe O.Bfh. der Luftwaffe.
What puzzles me is the following loss of this unit, a Do 215 at 12.11.41 in the Aegean,
FF. Stfw. Bruno Karpowitz (+), Do 215 (W.Nr. 0067) mit BO. Oblt. August Schal (v.), BM. Fw. Richard Michaels (vw.), BS. Ogfr. Georg Horter (vw.), Notlandung Island of Alonissos 12.11.41

regards

Re: Losses of 1./Aufkl. St. (F)/ Ob. d. Lw.

In the GQM the loss is listed under a smudged heading which looks like "Unmittelbar unteratellte Verband ( Einsatz Mittelmeer - Africa)" does that mean fast reaction unit ?. The reason is given as emergency landing in bad weather,

Hi Brian,

it must be "unmittelbar unterstellter Verband", i would say with my school English "indirectly subordinated flying unit".

and...??

Hi Byron, GQM also shows this as a Feindflug I thought the "unmittelbar unterstellter Verband" might have helped with your query as to what the Do215 was doing in the Aegean. I had thought It may have been a there due to a request for high level long range recon. in the region, just a thought. The rest of the GQM entry is as Matti's post,

You're right about the "subordinated unit" bit but »unmittelbar« means immediately/directly.

Hi Brian,

This is a logical explanation, needed for a long range recon. in the region.
Nick, thanks for the correction
