Re: Allied aircraft photos
I would not be so quick to dismiss Joe Baugher without evidence. His site was recently taken over by an individual who is unknown to me. Mr. Baugher has also passed away.

Re: Allied aircraft photos
I don't dismiss anyone Ed.
Baughers site is a very good tool to begin any research in US military aircraft. But as far as I know he did not make any research into any IARC or US Navy cards either. If he had, there would have been much, much more information available. I also know who has taken over his site. I also know people who are very good at understanding these cards and at least one of them is with us at TOCH. Cheers Stig |

Re: Allied aircraft photos
Stig this is from the 468BG records, wouldn't you know it gives the date as Jan. 14, her last mission (no.28); the number of missions is apparently right, 2 "Hump" and 16 bombing. As you say Mann lists her on 28 but not 29, as does this inventory.
Just add it to the "mystery" list! Regards Nick https://www.facebook.com/photo?fbid=...61506889447728 |

Re: Allied aircraft photos
Stig,
This person who took over Joe Baugher's site, what has he done? Has he increased entries by 10%? 50%? |

Re: Allied aircraft photos
Honestly Ed
No idea! I have downloaded what I need and haven't compared. From what I gathered at the time he simply ment to keep it alive and perhaps add new FY data. It didn't sound as he would improve any historic data, thus not interesting to me personally Cheers Stig |

Re: Allied aircraft photos
POST 89.
1. Most likely 374TCG / 322TCW on Luzon 1945; the 33rd. Sqn. had a red arrow behind the cockpit with a yellow "322TCW" inside, plus white cowl markings and rudder tab. This Sqn. adopted Native American names like Cherokee and Osage. 2. B-29 505BG on Tinian 1945, tail designator Circle "W" and green tip. Group insignia black-white-yellow. 3. 67FS badge with final victory total completed in P-38s; 22.5 shown here but USAF Study 85 awards 23 total. Finished war on Palawan PI; first victory 24 Aug. 1942 (Guadalcanal) last over Singapore 4 Aug. 1945. 4. P-39Q "S" code is Rice AAF CA (others were S-15, S-36, S-63) where 339FG trained Sept. 43--March 44 (note post-July 43 insignia). Previously based at Walterboro AAF SC (code "F") where if the serial is correct she crashed on Nov.11 43. 5. Looks like a P-400 with very early RAF-style camouflage, undersides too light for Neutral Grey so US Sky Type "S" Grey? the coloured nose ring suggests US- based squadron common at the time 41--42. Regards Nick |
