Tangmere Station ORB details

Gents,

Hoping someone has a copy of the Tangmere Station Records Book. Trying to find details on the emergency landing by Flight Lieutenant I Lock RNZAF skipper of Lancaster (NF906 HA-B) of No.218 (Gold Coast) Squadron. Hit by flak on route to Rüsselsheim , the crew made an emergency landing at RAF Tangmere. Looking for details on landing time, injuries to crew, damage to a/c or any other details.

TIA

Steve

Re: Tangmere Station ORB details

Do you know the date?

No doubt it must have been sometime before 13th Sept 1944 when the aircraft was lost on a op to Frankfurt

Steve

As offered on another forum, I will certainly let you have an answer when the ORB is back with me in the next few days. If you get the information in the meantime, let me know!

Andy

Re: Tangmere Station ORB details

Sorry it has taken me a while.

Just got the ORB back and nothing recorded about the incident on that date or any date shortly afterwards.

Re: Tangmere Station ORB details

That's the trouble with some ORBs - they record the OC's inspection of the latrines or that everyone had to take part in a Gas drill - but they never record the events that researchers wish to find!

Co-incidentally I'm trying to find details of a Stirling that made an emergency landing at RAF Christchurch from November 1943 onwards (on return from an Op) but have had no luck. It was seen by a contact of mine who was based there in the FAA from Nov 1943 but he could not be too specific on the date and there is no mention of it in USAAF records from Spring 1944.

Incidentally as the FAA were seen around the aircraft, local spotters reported that it was used by the FAA. I know they had a few big aircraft but that would be a surprise!
