Re: German night fighter top aces by NJG
Hi Michael
I have finally got a lead on Schneeweiss. One mention of two claims on the night of his death(by memory) but flying with NJS LF 6, where he probably got all his claims, allegedly seventeen(but no evidence to support that) Günter Bertram claimed his first thirteen until 20th July 1943 with this unit. This unit never entered on the daily claims sheets before it's end, but Bertram's logbook survived. Therefore it is likely that Schneeweiss was the highest scorer with NJS LF6. Kind Regards Johannes |

Hello Johannes,
great you join in. Hope you had a good week. So, this gives Kociok the lead in NJG200 with 6 kills, doesn't it ? Have a nice Saturday, Michael |

Re: German night fighter top aces by NJG
Hi Michael
Units tended to re-designate from time to time. But according to my own(dubious?) file on NJG200, all claims recorded between 21st August 1943 and 29th September 1943 the claimers are:- Wolfgang Jank x 6 Josef Kociok x 6 Hans Hauschild x 3 Hubert Reichelt x 2 ? Pies x 2 Gerhard Hauschild x 1 ? Müller x 1 Total of twenty-one. Also have for NJG 7 ? Schmitt x 3 Ludger Krimphone x 2 Heinz Brunner x 1 ? Appel x 1 ? Heller x 1 ? Kissinger x 1 Günter Scheidel x 1 Reinhold Schwemmer x 1 Joachim Vollhardt x 1 ? Roppe x 1 ? Nischler x 1 With NJG 10 Friedrich-Karl Müller x 5 Benno Gramlich x 2 Rudolf Schoenert x 2 Fritz E Krause x 2 Gustav Tham x 1 Egbert Jaacks x 1 Hans Durscheidt x 1 Harald Lange x 1 Friedrich Berger x 1 ? Jung x 1 Heinz-Martin Hadeball With KG 51 Johann Trenke had 9 and Eberhard Baier had 7. Trenke's bordfunker Josef Ottrin got 3 others. Sorry about the lack of some forenames, hope somebody else can give you these. Kind Regards Johannes and teo other pilot whose name I cannot read "Wittmau" "Reiner". |

Re: German night fighter top aces by NJG
Great !
I also forgot to include NJG102 top ace Dieter Kehrberg. NJGr10: is it true what wikipedia says... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kurt_Welter ...that Kurt Welter scored his five August 1944 kills in 1./NJGr10 ? This would make him the joint top scorer of that unit. Have a very nice Sunday, Michael |

Re: German night fighter top aces by NJG
Hi Michael
In August 1944 Welter claimed five British aircraft with 10./JG 300! Micro films give him claims with 5./JG 300 during July 1944 and with 10./JG 300 from August 1944 until end October 1944. I do agree with Kehrberg of 3./NJG 102 with five. Kind Regards Johannes |

Re: German night fighter top aces by NJG
Dear Johannes,
alright, I'll change that in my notes. In another thread, I mourned that the photo of NJG101 top ace Johann Krause in OSPREY's "German Night Fighter Aces of World War 2" is a hoax. Can you tell me where I can have look at a real Johann Krause photo ? Have a nice evening, sincerely, Michael |

Re: German night fighter top aces by NJG
Dear Michael
You would never regret acquiring a copy of "Die Ritterkreuzträger der Luftwaff! by Ernst Obermaier. I think the last edition was in 1989 by publisher Dieter Hoffmann GMbH 6500Mainz 41. ISBN 3-87 341-065-6 This publication was the work leader in it's field, and light-years ahead from the 1st edition in the mid-1960's until being somewhat superceded by others in recent years. It has fotos of ALL the Ritterkreuz winners in the Luftwaffe. Comes in two volumns Jadg and Schlacht/Stuka. Best of luck in finding a copy. Kind Regards Johannes |
