Attack on a ship, march 1941

On 23.02.41 the Norwegian coastal steamer "Hestmanden" was attacked by a unidentified german aircraft somewhere between London and Middelsborough with several near misses. Anyone got a clue on the type of plane and unit?

Re: Attack on a ship, march 1941

Looks like I managed to type february instead of march in my initial post, so the correct date would be 23.03.41. Looking at the monthly reports at http://www.wlb-stuttgart.de/seekrieg/41-03.htm, there were some Luftwaffe anti-shipping action in the area.

These attacks were to the south-west of UK; Middlesborough is north-east

Ok. Do you have any information regarding attacks on ships in the north-east on this particular date?
