Number SD-2 bombs on board Ju 88 A-5 and Me 110

Number SD-2 bombs on board Ju 88 A-5 and Me 110
I'm curious how many bombs SD-2 could carry the Ju 88 A-5 (for example, III / KG 51):
whether they were 360 bombs SD-2
and may
720 bombs SD-2?
I think it could carry 720 SD-2 in two containers

In turn, the destroyer Messerchmitt Me 110 could carry 360 bombs SD-2?

Am I right, or am I wrong?

Regards,
mw

Anywhere that an aircraft could carry a 250 kg bomb, it could carry an AB 250 container. The AB 250-1 held 96 x SD 2.

Where an aircraft could carry a 50 kg bomb, it could carry an AB 23 (23 x SD 2) or an AB 70 (22 or 23 x SD 2)

Re: Number SD-2 bombs on board Ju 88 A-5 and Me 110

Hi Mirek

The Ju 88 could carry 720 SD-2 in the bomb bay. How exactly the SD-2 were included, I can not say. There is an interesting video of "Polar film" with the name "Die III. / Kampfgeschwader 51 im Russlandfeldzug". The film shows the time June / July 1941 in Krosno / Lezany. Before the Ju88 was loaded with SD-2, the bombs was pushed in a kind of tube. I think this tube was mounted in the bomb bay / VEMAG.

Regards, Rene

According to a 2/41 Ju 88A manual it could carry 4 dispensers of 90 SD2 each. Ju 88 had to be used in Rüstzustand A (both bombbays usable).

To Denniss

An interesting thing about it, is a standard bomber or the modified version?

Just before 22 June 1941, the entire III/KG 51 had all his Junkers Ju 88 A-5 suited to attacking targets low height as a ground attack aircraft (Schlachtfliegereinsätze).

4x90 SD-2 (360 or 8xSD-2 (720) made a big difference in such low mission, as they did plenty since 22.06.41 over Soviet airfield and other targets.

Re: Number SD-2 bombs on board Ju 88 A-5 and Me 110

Standard Ju 88A, just Rüstzustand A (no fuel in bomb bays). Manual mentions 360 as max (Ju 88A im Rüstzustand A kann mit 360 SD 2 beladen werden) and no external bombloads possible as the release mechanism was already maxxed out with the 360 SD 2 (Beladung von Mischlast ist nicht möglich da über RAB-DKS/XII die Flügellasten nicht im Reihenwurf ausgelöst werden können).
Bombs are released with forward bomb bay left first, then forward right, rear left and rear right

Re: Number SD-2 bombs on board Ju 88 A-5 and Me 110

Hi Mirek

I checked again in my documents (diary 7./KG51). The Ju88 of III./KG51 were loaded with a total of 360 SD2. The allegation of me with a total of 720 SD2 was wrong.
The tubes for the SD2 are loading tools and helps to loading the bombs in the bomb bay.
For the loading of a Ju88 with 320 SD2 groundcrewmen needed about 20 to 30 minutes.
