Captured French D.520 info needed Serial # 534 - Code Question....
Hey guys...
This is what info I do have: D.520 GC II/1 Regia aeronautica – 13th Gruppo 82 squadron. Le Luc – 11/1942 Pise-Metato - 07/1943 Captured by the Germans - 09/1943 Coded 78 "6" I guess I am confused on the "code" system that is being shown. Does not appear to be French or German code...and I have not been able to find any pics of a German captured D.520 with those markings... Thoughts? TIA |

Re: Captured French D.520 info needed Serial # 534 - Code Question....
If I understand your question correctly, 78"6"is an Italian code:
78=78°Squadriglia and "6" the individual number Michel |

Re: Captured French D.520 info needed Serial # 534 - Code Question....
Harrison
When the Germans annexed the Vichy-France in Nov 1942 they also aquired a large amount of Dewoitine 520C. Most of these were sold off (given?) to both Bulgaria and Italy. One unit in Italy which at least partially re-equipped with the type was 13 Gruppo. This unit operated both 78 and 82 Sqd and hence we should expect to see both 78-x and 82-x coded D.520s. So it is not impossible that No 534 once had belonged to 82 Sqd and been handed over to 78 Sqd. May I ask your source for the details in your original message? Cheers Stig |

Thanks Snautzer
I don't have the book, but your scan does not show from where the specific details about No 534 come from. Perhaps another page? Cheers Stig |
