Fw 190D with chequered underside...
First time i read about was inside "JV44 by R.Forsyth, Classic Ed." p206 where it is said that Feldwebel Bodo Dirschauer recall that many different undersides had been seen over JV44 protection Staffel aircrafts ie: white stripes over red or black as well as chequered ones white/red or white/black!
Then inside "Doras of the Galland Circus from J.Crandall, EagleFiles #1" p14 annotation Nb11, Jerry tell us that there is a known photography from a wing with a chequered underside ! But as far as i know this photo must not have been yet published, nor must have been done any drawings or profiles? Did anyone know something about it? So Jerry i must tell you how much awaited are your two volumes about Fw 190D. The first one expected for August will especially give us more explanation about JG 301 markings and volume2 will give more explanation about JV 44 and i expect will show us this "chequered" wing http://www.eagle-editions.com/dorabook.htm Finally i would like to thanks Eagles Edition and Patty, since i ordered "Wings of the Black Cross Vol 4 + The Official Luftwaffe color chart" via the net on Wednesday 26th April and got it in France today in the morning of the seventieth working day Note: I have no interest with Mr Crandall nor Eagles edition, etc... |

Re: Fw 190D with chequered underside...
Hello!
Thank you for your nice comments about the service the girls gave you on your order. It is nice to hear as I don't personally have a lot to do with that part of the business. I'm glad they took good care of you. Your question about the checkered Fw 190 underwing is very intriquing. I have heard this story from several sources but have yet to see photo documentation. I do have a good friend who claims to have seen it and confirms that he saw a copy of a wing with large red and white or yellow checkers separated from the fuselage. He informed me that it was not from a Dora 9 but from a radial engine 190. What this is all about I don't know. Until a photo turns up or is published, who knows? I'm very anxious for you to see my JG 301 color and markings section in my new book as I know you have done a lot of research and are very interested in this subject. I'm anxious for your comments to see if you agree or disagree with my presentation. If I hear any more on this checker underwing I'll let you know. Keep up your good research, look forward to hearing from you soon, Cheers, Jerry

Hi,

Late Luftwaffe is full of question marks and that's what make the job so exciting For example, did those radial engines Fw 190 with reversed JG 301 fuselage band are for sure from I./JG301 as it is widely said or are they from another unit as I would not be surprised to learn about? Cheers, Olivier |
