Lt. Col. Earl Williams, B-17 crewman, Pearl Harbor
Lt. Col. Earl Williams, age 101, A survivor of the Pearl Harbor attack, he was the assistant flight engineer on a B-17C that was set afire by Japanese Zeros while on final approach to Hickam Field on December 7, 1941. The plane broke apart on landing and Earl escaped with nothing worse than a scalp wound. He went on to serve a combat tour in Australia and New Guinea throughout most of 1942 as an enlisted crewman in the 435th Bomb Squadron. After the war he continued military service, earned a commission in the USAF, and rose to Lt. Col..
