A hook from a Ju88 -C6

Dear All,

This hook comes from a JU88 C6 (Wnr
750814) from 3/ZG1 that crashed on 7 March 1944 in the South of France ;
Anybody reading this post has any idea what this hook was used for ?

As you can see, marking is:

"R8 88.624-12/2 a

mdr 96 396
3115.4 4"

The crew of this JU88 was
F Fw Döhler, Heinz,
B Uffz Gargulak, Friedrich,
Bf Uffz Bongers, Ernst,

Any information would be very welcome, if, by chance you have some.

All best.

GC

Re: A hook from a Ju88 -C6

Does not fit April 1941 manual, humm.... For the Ju 88 C-6 version its given 88.629 (Jumo 211 F/J engines). Cowling Part (Motorverkleidung) 88.624 is given for A-1, A-3, A-5, A-6, A-7, A-9, A-10, A-14, C-1, D-2 (info date: April 1941). That its marked with factory mdr indicates its made after March 1943 and the Ju 88 C-6 W.Nr. 750814 is from July/August 1943 parts manufaturing period. Maybe this part number was fittable to C-6 at later date (as it entered production in late 1941) but I do not have all the exact relevant part info. 3115.4 is metal composition number.

Else you perhaps found wrong crash/wreck ??

regards
-ed

Re: A hook from a Ju88 -C6

Hi Ed and thanks for checking,

I am 100% sure of the crash identity : I have the date thanks to local witnesses, I have the ULTRA report confirming the date and the ZG (reading is not easy: see in the middle of the page), and one of the crew death card (see attachments).

So, no doubt about the aircraft.

Maybe the explanation is "cannibalizing" parts: installing one cowling from an aircraft to another aircraft ?

Have a nice week-end.

Gilles

Re: A hook from a Ju88 -C6

Found "hook" - actually a hinge - in A-4 numbers too (Jumo 211 F/J).
It was "older part" hidden within 88.629 group, as given for C-6 version.
