Re: Swordfish L2809/4G 820 Sqdn FAA

Hi Kjell

According to Brian Cull's FLYING SAILORS AT WAR Volume 1, 4AG did not carry a third crewman, only Hunter as pilot and Smith as observer/air-gunner.

Hope this helps

Cheers
Brian

Many thanks Brian.
Yes, this might be the reason i was not able to find any trace of a third man.

regards Kjell

I thought I might add (Already told Kjell) that Sturtivant has the following in his Swordfish Story, from one Harry Simpson, about one of the earlier attacks in April: "For this attack the Swordfish were armed with four semi-armour-piercing 250-pounders on the man racks, with eight 25lb bombs on the light series racks. Because of the weight the crew consisted of two pilots with observers in the section leaders' aircraft and pilots with TAG's in the other aircraft."
